Why Fight Poverty?

50% of children born into poverty are expected to experience poverty through adulthood.
Poverty disproportionately impacts communities of color, with 25% of Black families, 33% of Hispanic families and 8% of white families living in poverty in Philadelphia.
Research shows that poverty determines a child’s educational experiences, healthcare, nutrition and life expectancy.
Poverty is the most pressing challenge facing our region, home to Philadelphia, the nation’s poorest big city, and some of the poorest areas in southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.
In our region alone, more than 705,000 adults and children struggle to survive a life of poverty every day.
