And one of the most pressing challenges our region faces is poverty. Right now, more than 705,000 adults and children struggle to survive a life of poverty every day. The City of Philadelphia, at the heart of our region, remains the poorest big city in the nation, with more than a quarter of its citizens living in poverty.
