WOMEN UNITED: Igniting Change for Women and Families

MEET JUSTINE, THE WOMEN UNITED LEADER LIVING BY EXAMPLE.

Women United of Greater Philadelphia is part of our community’s DNA. The ambitious and caring work of this network’s members has changed lives for women and families in our region for more than 20 years. From organizing diaper drives during the desperate days of the pandemic to celebrating local female entrepreneurs for breaking barriers and inspiring the next generation, Women United bans together to transform the very conditions in which people live.

As United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey celebrates its 100th anniversary, we are especially proud of the Women United leaders who have fostered this network of change-makers. We spoke with Vice-Chair, Justine Sloyer, about her journey to United Way, Women United, and the fight against poverty:

Justine Sloyer

Vice-Chair, Women United of Greater Philadelphia
Global Director of Talent Management, AST LLC

“United Way has been a part of my family's lives for generations. My mother was a supporter even before I was alive. To this day, I proudly wear one of the pins United Way gave her for being a long-time donor.

Growing up, I was a beneficiary of programs similar to those offered by United Way’s community partners - programs that provide opportunity to communities that are typically overlooked. With those programs, I was able to build a future for myself. I became the first in my family to attain a graduate degree. I grew my career to Global Director of Talent Management for a global services organization. I am a leader in my home and in my community. All this, from a seed of opportunity. That’s why I believe in United Way. Because given the chance, we can all reach our full potential.

As a leader of Women United, I am proud to carry out United Way’s poverty-fighting mission. Every day, our Women United family persistently partners and provides opportunities to enable women and their children to live strong independent lives from cradle to career. Together, we celebrate 100 years of our community fighting to be the change we want to see in our world.”
