What does it take to transform an already-great recipe into a truly spectacular dish? Sometimes, just one more ingredient can elevate a recipe to the next level. In the same way, each year at United2Feed, we host a great event, but after seeing increased interest and need, we wanted to add another ingredient to really bring out the flavor of the event and amplify the Impact. And that ingredient is a cause champion – Chef Christine Hazel.
Chef Christine hails from the Philadelphia region. While in Culinary School, she competed on FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen to learn from Chef Gordon Ramsey. She battled her way to beat out many experienced chefs, but her experiences on national television haven’t changed her commitment to giving back. Chef Christine teaches culinary classes to inner city high school students in Philadelphia and enjoys exposing people to foods they may have hesitated to try before.
Now, Chef Christine is teaming up with our United Way to provide her personal flare to United2Feed and help raise awareness about food insecurity. In our region alone, more than 750,000 individuals struggle with food insecurity and aren’t sure where their next meal will come from. These community members are facing more than bare cupboards and empty refrigerators – lack of access to nutritious food results in part of the vicious cycle of poverty that traps families for generations.
“When you’re hungry it’s hard to thrive – in the classroom or in the workplace,” said Chef Christine. “That’s why I’m proud to team up with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey for United2Feed to help tackle our region’s hunger crisis and support stronger, healthier communities for this generation and the next.”
Thanks, Chef Christine, for Living United!
