Partnership Brings Needed “Community Fridge” To North Philadelphia Pharmacy

The Shop and Carry Pharmacy in North Philadelphia became home to a new community fridge, providing free, fresh food to the neighborhood. The Philadelphia Partnership for Nutrition and Health (PPNH), in partnership with the Cencora Impact Foundation, provided funding and convening to bring this resource to the community. The fridge will be managed by the Mama Tee Community Fridge Project, which currently operates 18 other fridges across the City of Philadelphia.

“As one of the first community fridges inside a pharmacy, we’re thrilled to partner with Shop & Carry Pharmacy, PPNH, and the Cencora Impact Foundation in our collective mission to end food insecurity in the city.”

Dr. Michelle Nelson, Mama-Tee Fridge Founder/Creative Director

The Shop and Carry Pharmacy is a member of the Good Pharmacy Network, a group of locally owned, independent pharmacies serving communities across the US.

Hosted by United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, PPNH accelerates proven community-led health interventions and pioneers innovative solutions. Our approach focuses on creating systemic, sustainable change through evidence-based interventions, while developing funding models that ensure long-term impact in our communities.

PPNH is just one of the ways United Way is tackling food insecurity. Our 211 hotline provides callers with resources in communities for people in need, and we support multiple organizations providing food through our Partnership Grant Program.
