Tax season is here – a time of year that most of us find a little, well, taxing. And with good reason! It's time consuming, confusing and the paperwork seems endless.
But for families living paycheck-to-paycheck, a full tax refund goes a long way in boosting a budget. And that’s why each year, we team up with partners to provide free tax preparation and other financial services to not only make tax season a little easier to navigate but also empower more of our neighbors to take control of their money strategically and effectively.
- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA): Each year we partner with the Campaign for Working Families (CWF) to bring the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to our communities. VITA utilizes IRS-trained volunteers to provide free tax assistance and other financial empowerment services to families and individuals earning $55,000 or less each year, helping them establish firmer financial footing and take steps toward breaking the cycle of poverty. Last year through VITA, volunteers completed 61,000 tax returns, saving community members approximately $18.1 million in fees to paid services and returning $47.9 million to the community! - MyFreeTaxes: Powered by a national partnership between United Way and H&R Block, MyFreeTaxes offers free, online tax preparation services for taxpayers who earned $66,000 or less in 2018. Filing is easy, secure and guaranteed to be accurate, and the software scans for all tax credits filers qualify for, ensuring a maximum refund. Explore MyFreeTaxes.
