United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ), alongside Cooper University Health Care, Virtua Health, Holman, NFI Industries, PNC Bank, and American Water has launched the Camden Community Uplift Initiative—a four-year, $5 million effort to reduce poverty and boost employment in Camden.
With a long-term goal of raising $8 million, the initiative targets two main areas:
1. Access to Benefits & Digital Connectivity – "One Stop" community hubs will offer help with healthcare enrollment, public benefits, internet access, tax prep, and digital skills.
2. Pathways to Employment – Local job training and apprenticeships will be expanded, especially for industries in Camden, with direct connections between employers and jobseekers.
The plan was developed by listening to Camden residents, who shared challenges including limited job access, difficulty accessing benefits, and a lack of reliable transportation. UWGPSNJ brought together trusted local groups to help guide the effort from the ground up.
"This is about lasting, community-led change. We're here to invest in what Camden residents say they need most."
While the partners have raised enough funding to kick off the work, more support is needed.
"We're calling on individuals, companies, and donors to help us build a stronger, more equitable Camden," Golderer added. "This is just the beginning."
