Janice K. (Jake) Marini

Chief Engagement Officer

I believe everyone needs to look out for one another. It’s really that simple. Events of the past few years have both illustrated our common humanity and underscored the extreme economic and health disparities people face within our region and around the world. I want to be a part of the solution.

Jake serves as Chief Engagement Officer of United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) but is best described as our “Jake” of All Trades. In this role, Jake acts as an advisor, a strategist, and a connector of dots across the organization. She is responsible for managing board and key stakeholder relationships as well as a range of executive duties and strategic priorities that advance UWGPSNJ’s mission to fight poverty.

Jake brings to UWGPSNJ a broad and deep knowledge of the nonprofit landscape. In her prior role as Vice Provost for Global Engagement at Drexel University, Jake was responsible for developing and managing Drexel’s international academic and research partnerships. Jake first joined Drexel in 2018 as Vice President and University Secretary in the Office of the President. In this capacity, she was the primary contact for all Board of Trustees meetings, orientations and communications, and managed a broad range of sensitive projects and initiatives for the President of the University.

Before Drexel, Jake served as Chief of Staff to the President and Vice President for University Affairs at Thomas Jefferson University. She developed Jefferson’s international partnerships and affiliations and had oversight of core university functions such as registrar, space planning, academic events, library services, communications, and financial aid. Prior to, Jake served as Executive Director for Special Events in the University of Pennsylvania’s President’s Office, the Head of Cultivation and Events for the Royal Shakespeare Company (UK); and Alumni Relations Manager for St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University (UK).

A native of Stratford, Connecticut, Jake is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and a Fellow of Bryn Mawr College’s Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute (NELI). She has been an associate member of the Consular Corps of Philadelphia and held board positions at Global Philadelphia Association and Inis Nua Theatre Company.

When not at her desk, Jake enjoys international travel, riding her bicycle, and supporting theatre, live music and the Philadelphia Flyers. Jake is a dual citizen of the USA and Republic of Ireland. She is also a Jeopardy! champion.
