Role Summary

The Annual Giving Manager is a valuable member of a team of fundraising professionals across United Way of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey’s (UWGPSNJ) portfolio of initiatives. Under the leadership of the Chief Development Officer, the Annual Giving Officer is accountable for supporting a successful execution of the annual giving strategy to achieve the fundraising goals of the Development Team. This individual takes responsibility for the strategy, relationship management, fundraising, engagement efforts and management of the Local Boards.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the knowledge expert to build and execute strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and growth of the Annual Fund. This includes developing and cultivating a portfolio of current and prospective donors with identified revenue and growth goals by measurement of meaningful interactions (phone and email conversations, and stewardship mailings, etc.), and solicitations.​
  • Use independent judgement to develop meaningful ways to engage giving society donors and prospects through cultivation, stewardship, and engagement in events and volunteer opportunities with the goal of growing membership and revenue. Manage local boards and ability to manage giving societies as assigned.​
  • Ability to raise the Annual Fund portion of the Development Team revenue goal.​
  • Create and implement customized giving opportunities for current and prospective Annual Fund donors by aligning donor interests with the Community Commitment. Collaborate with the Development Team in managing appeals.​
  • Be a partner and collaborator with colleagues to develop strategies to move a percentage of workplace Annual Fund level donors to giving outside of the workplace campaigns and directly to UWGPSNJ.
  • Develop an expert working understanding of Community Commitment strategy framing and identify opportunities to leverage and increase mission related giving among Annual Fund donors.
  • Responsible for acquiring, retaining and upgrading donors by implementing strategy and managing the development of all direct mail communications and appeals. Contribute to organizational fundraising by executing all direct mail solicitations and related communications.
  • Utilize current and emerging direct response fundraising techniques and channels to retain and cultivate current donors and reactivate lapsed donors with a focus on individuals through Direct Mail. Priority is to focus on the cultivation of current and lapsed donors, particularly those not assigned in individual giving caseload. Secondary focus is the acquisition of new donors and the conversion of designated or one-time event donors.
  • Develop creative copy and content for all Direct Mail marketing materials including accompanying email solicitations. Manage all creative production and internal routing to ensure that all communications adhere to United Way messaging archetype and brand guidelines.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Six to eight years of experience in development, communications and stewardship.
  • Candidate must be a strategic thinker, strong writer, excellent proofreader, and be highly attentive to detail.
  • Candidate will need to demonstrate required core competencies in accordance with the UWW & UWGPSNJ Competency Framework (Donor-Centric, Mission-Focused, Relationship Oriented, Collaborator, Results Driven, Brand Steward).
  • The ideal candidate is a motivated, highly organized, self-starter who is comfortable working closely and collaboratively with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Microsoft Office skills and experience required as well as relational database capabilities.
