Role Summary

The Email Marketing & Communications Associate is responsible for creating and implementing email marketing campaigns across United Way’s portfolio of brands. This includes strategizing, copywriting, and monitoring email marketing efforts to maximum reach and efficiency. In addition, this role is responsible for writing various internal and external communications to increase brand awareness and elevate United Way’s mission to donors and stakeholders.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities include

Email Marketing (60%)

  • Create and execute email marketing campaigns across the portfolio of brands including United Way, The Promise, SVP, Built By Philly, and other initiatives as needed.
  • Email duties include creating email marketing campaigns; ensuring design and layouts are user, mobile-friendly and optimized; creating written content and visuals; identifying target audiences and growing email lists; merging and maintaining data from various platforms; performing A/B testing; tracking and analyzing campaign results and staying abreast of email marketing best practices.

Communications (30%)

  • Write and develop compelling content and messaging that will be used in various stakeholder communications including internal memos, blog posts, marketing materials and websites.
  • Responsible for cultivating and elevating the brand voice through written communications to ensure accuracy, tone and key messaging comes to life.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Support marcomm team efforts to build content and brand consistency across all channels (web, digital, social print) and adhere to core messaging, brand voice, style, etc.
  • Other non-essential functions and responsibilities or duties as related or assigned


Job qualifications, knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising/Public Relations, Communications, or relevant discipline preferred
  • Three or more years of experience in marketing with hands-on familiarity with MailChimp or alternative email marketing platform
  • Excellent writing and copywriting skills; must have a strong love for writing and the ability to tell a story in a clear, concise, and compelling way.
  • Writing samples will be required.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and proofreading skills.
  • The ideal candidate is motivated, highly organized and gets excited implementing new ideas and processes from start to finish. The ideal candidate will be emersed in the world of email trends and best practices to help take our email marketing efforts to the next level.
