In 2020, United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey teamed up with the City of Philadelphia to launch The Promise—a first-of-its-kind collaboration between government, business, philanthropy, and anchor institutions.
With a $10M initial investment from the City of Philadelphia bolstered by matching dollars from the private sector, the Promise will create and support opportunities for an equitable recovery from the pandemic.

It will also dramatically increase our region’s understanding of the drivers of poverty and what impact investments yield.
