PARTNERSHIP FOR HEALTHY KIDS

In Camden City, a staggering 40 percent of youth are obese or overweight, and only 42 percent meet national physical activity guidelines.

In response, UWGPSNJ in Camden County, the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties and other local stakeholders, have joined together to lead the New Jersey Partnership for Healthy Kids-Camden (NJPHK-C)─ a collaborative program working to combat obesity in children through policy reform and environmental change.

Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NJPHK-C work includes:

  • Reconstruction of Northgate Park: providing children and families with a fun, safe environment for play
  • Implementation of Breakfast in the Classroom: helping students start the day with an energy-sustaining meal
  • Adoption of a comprehensive wellness policy: changing the way schools feed and keep students active
