Stuff the Bus! Returns to Drive Impact for Local Students
Tue, August 02, 2016
For students everywhere, the first day of school prompts a new set of questions, and naturally, nerves: Will I make a new friend during lunch? Will I like my teacher? Where will I sit on the bus? When children feel prepared and confident, it’s easier to conquer those back-to-school-butterflies.
But too many families in our region will struggle to provide their children with the tools they need to help them achieve and thrive in school. In fact, studies suggest that the costs to get a child ready for school can exceed six-hundred dollars.
Every child deserves to be equipped with the resources they need to learn and grow. That’s why our United Way is hosting its annual Stuff the Bus! Campaign, a project aimed at getting kids prepared for the upcoming school year by collecting much-needed school supplies. Sponsored in part by the Press of Atlantic City and the Borgata Heart & Soul Foundation, the Stuff the Bus drive will run through August 12.
Last year, together, we filled 530 backpacks, and this year through support from our sponsors, we are preparing to fill 1500 backpacks! And we need your help.
Join us as we Stuff the Bus, here’s how:
- Ask your company to get involved and host a “Stop for Supplies” where employees can donate needed items. Sign up here.
- Ask your friends and family to participate by purchasing backpacks or dropping off school supplies now through August 13 for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Southern Branch at Boscov's Atlantic City.
Education is the foundation of a community that thrives, and it takes all of us – parents, teachers and caring adults – for children to achieve success. Thank you for helping us drive measurable, lasting Impact that changes lives and strengthens communities, one child and one family at a time.
