Burlington County Local Initiatives

At United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ), we believe that everyone deserves a quality education from cradle to career, a job that pays a family-sustaining wage and good health. That’s why, through our Impact Fund, we invest in the building blocks of a good life - education, income and health – and provide community members with opportunities for better lives.

Education

Investing in high-quality education opportunities is key to equipping students with the skills to achieve both inside and out of the classroom. That’s why UWGPSNJ works to provide Burlington County’s youngest residents with quality early learning experiences; ensures that students can read at proficiently by third grade; prepares them to transition successfully from middle to high school; and arms them with the skill sets and confidence they need for a lifetime of success. By investing in partnerships that provide mentors and increase access to important resources for academic and social success, we help more of Burlington County’s young people graduate from high school college- and career-ready.

Income

Buying a home. Investing in a college education. Becoming financially literate. Saving for the future. Each of these is a proven strategy to help local families build assets and develop self-sufficiency. And to help our community members achieve these goals, Our Impact Fund invests in financial education, asset development and housing assistance, enabling residents to build a better future. Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, United Way educates clients about tax credits and provides free financial advice to help qualifying residents get the most out of their tax return. Last tax season alone, the VITA program in Burlington County completed nearly 2,000 returns and claimed almost $300,000 for local families, providing the financial boost many needed to build their savings and pay down debt.

Health

We believe that everyone deserves access to the resources and options they need to lead healthy lives, at any age. We also believe that all women have the right to be safe in their homes and communities with their families. That’s why, UWGPSNJ in Burlington County is working to not only prevent domestic violence from happening in the first place, but to make certain services are there in times of need—all by ensuring that women and their children have access to services and to resources that keep them safe.We believe that everyone deserves access to the resources and options they need to lead healthy lives, at any age.
